The BAV, a Brussels athletic club supported by the Flemish Community, is open to everyone. We welcome adults as well as children, starting from the age of 7.
The club is recognizes by the Flemish Athletics League, which means that each member is automatically fully insured and receives an official starting number to participate in different competitions.
The language spoken during our activities is Dutch, but if necessary, we can help you in French or English during the training sessions.
The BAV was founded in 1979 and counts about 150 members today; quite a large number of them are children younger than 12. The level varies between « starters » and « athletes ».
The club organises its trainings either in Etterbeek (track of the VUB) or in Anderlecht (Jesse Owens track), according to the following time schedule:
Wednesday (18.30 to 20.00h) on the sports ground of the VUB
Thursday (18.30 to 20.00h) on the Jesse Owens sports ground (in the gymnasium during the winter)
Friday (18.30 to 20.00h) on the sports ground of the VUB
Sunday (10.30 to 11.45h) in the Forêt de Soignes
Each member is free to decide at which training sessions he/she wants tot participate.
We encourage our athletes to participate in competitions (track, indoor, cross or joggings), but this is not mandatory. They can take part in provincial, regional or even national championships. Several members run the 20 km of Brussels.
Every year the club organises an athletics weekend, a hiking weekend and a meeting for all club members and their families.
The BAV also frequently holds « start-to-run » sessions.
Thanks to the support from the Flemish Community and of our sponsor, KBC, the membership fee is moderate.
